There are three ways you can immediately execute to acquire direct traffic.
1. Make brand recall strategy your priority. The most powerful form of direct traffic is when your target customers type your URL directly into their browser because they remember your brand when it comes to things they want to look for. This is as if they are giving you the first rights of refusal before they look for other brands. Just like how they think of AAR & Company when they think of marketing advisory, or AirAsia when they think of a budget airline, you can also make them think of you for something you are good at. Usually, this brand recall is earned through information gain, either publishing unique, proprietary data or a sophisticated point of view that no AI can replicate, or they simply bookmark your URL directly in their browsers.
2. Build an automated push via email, instant messaging or both. A high-performing email newsletter or WhatsApp message is a push mechanism that allows you to control the timing and the narrative. You see, a database of five thousand high-intent subscribers is worth more than five million generic impressions because it represents an owned audience that you can reach with a single click, completely bypassing the AI-summary filter.
3. Get used to meet-ups. Establishing a private community via curated groups, either online or physical, creates a direct line of communication with your target customers. These low-friction ‘channels’ allow for real-time engagement, bonding or even immediate feedback. When you own the community, you own the traffic. This direct connection ensures that even if every search algorithm disappeared tomorrow, your business would still have its most valuable asset: a direct, unfiltered connection to your customers.
Scaling your business in the age of AI today requires you to rely less on search engines and social media platforms and start behaving like a large brand by controlling your own ecosystem and minimising risks of being disappointed by their algorithms.
