Is a personal brand worth the effort?
If you look through the top articles found on Google, every marketing strategist and consultant says the exact same thing. Yes, you must build a personal brand. Why? Well, it’s because it helps open bigger doors, attract more customers, and your career or business will be okay.
Then you read the next paragraph on how to actually do it. It’s not that easy. Writing articles or producing video after video, and having to ride those algorithms, don’t sit well with you. It feels like you will spend more time doing things that are totally beyond your personal capability. You are supposed to run your business and not become a content creator. Becoming a social media superstar is never your intention, as you wish to stay discreet.
While you understand that building that trust before people do business with you is crucial, getting your name and brand searchable is crucial and building that reputation early is crucial, you just couldn’t stick your neck out there and be known. It’s just not you.
Here’s how to fix it.
You do not need to spend hours creating content. There’s a simpler way to allow people to validate that you are real, legit and credible without burning hours daily to create content.
Get a domain with the right name and come up with a simple website that looks professional. Have all the background stories, products, value proposition and all in there. Accompany the copywriting with authentic images. These are one-time tasks. It’s searchable on search engines and AI platforms.
Pick one social media platform that suits you well. Just one. Make sure your customers are also hanging out there. The last thing you want is to be present on this one platform, but your potential customers are actually hanging out on other platforms.
Set aside one day in a week. Produce one piece of content. It can be an article, a faceless video, or both depending on what you are comfortable with. The content can be about you summarising your one takeaway from the week, your opinion about a trend that worries you or the trend that makes you excited or something else.
At the same time, on that social media channel of yours, connect with other people whom you think can be your potential customers and potential partners. Grow those followers and subscribers.
Use that content as the basis and mould it into a proper article, a short one, if you prefer to write. Then park it on the website under the blog section. If you produced a video, then refine it and park it natively on that social media channel of yours.
One posting per week is okay. What matters here is to balance the behind-the-scenes tasks of growing those followers and subscribers with content production and posting.
Run an advertisement on that social media platform daily, for just $10 per day. This will bring more people to your social media account even though you just post once a week.
It is all about making your real-world competence visible to as many right people as possible. You would need to be seen as active and, at the same time, have a decent number of followers and subscribers. Once all of these are done, then only your “persuasion” to make them buy starts.
